Common use
Glycomet SR tablet is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by reducing glucose absorption from food and decreasing glucose production in the liver. In addition to diabetes, Glycomet is also used to treat Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in women.
Dosage and direction
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet, as this can impact its effectiveness. Always take this medicine with your evening meal to maximize its effects and minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dosage and frequency. Never adjust the dose without consulting your doctor first.

Pregnancy: Caution is advised while taking Glycomet SR tablet if you are pregnant. It is best to consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Congestive Heart Failure: Patients suffering from congestive heart failure requiring pharmacological treatment should exercise caution when taking this medication as it could increase their risk for lactic acidosis.
Alcohol: While on Glycomet SR, avoid excessive intake of alcohol as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious side effect.
Contraindications
Renal Impairment: Patients with severe renal impairment should avoid using Glycomet SR tablet as it could exacerbate their condition and increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
Metabolic Acidosis: This medicine is contraindicated in patients with acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, as it may worsen their condition.

Possible side effect
Glycomet SR may cause some common side effects, including diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, flatulence, indigestion, headache, and abdominal discomfort.
Drug interaction
Thiazides and other diuretics: These medicines can increase blood sugar levels, potentially affecting the glucose control provided by Glycomet SR. Examples include hydrochlorothiazide and furosemide.
Corticosteroids: Medicines like prednisone and dexamethasone can elevate blood sugar levels, reducing the efficacy of Glycomet SR in managing diabetes.
Medicines for your thyroid gland: These can lead to increased blood sugar levels, impacting the glucose-lowering effect of Glycomet SR. L-thyroxine is an example.
Missed dose
If you forget to take your regular dose of the Glycomet SR, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never increase your dosage without consulting with your doctor.
Overdose
If you accidentally take more Glycomet SR than prescribed, you may experience common symptoms like nausea, stomach discomfort, or diarrhea. Make sure you inform your doctor about it.
